Project_Former Debenhams Strip-Out

Hurst was appointed as Principal
Contractor to deliver the full strip out
of an 8,000m2, three-storey former
Debenhams at Churchill Square Shopping
Centre, Brighton. Working to BREEAM
RFO 2014 standards, the team achieved
outstanding sustainability results, with 0%
waste to landfill, 71.4% recycled and 28.6%
converted to energy.

Despite restricted access and a live
shopping environment, Hurst managed
the works safely, co-ordinating waste
logistics and maintaining uninterrupted
centre operations. The site was cleared
on time, to programme, and to the client’s
sustainability objectives.
The scope of works included:

Full strip out of non-structural
elements, including partitions, ceilings,
floors, wall linings, fixtures, fittings,
escalators, and a goods lift

Removal of all M&E systems: lighting,
power, busbar trunking, ventilation
(AHUs, fans, ductwork), sprinklers, fire
alarms, drainage, voice/data cabling,
intruder alarms, CCTV, and access
control
